Searching For Caddis
by joey on May.19, 2008, under Fly Fishing
The last couple days Jason and I have been floating the Eagle in hopes of catching the first caddis hatch of the year. The first day was overcast and chilly but the water had some good clarity and temperature. After floating through a mile and a half of really good private water without a fish we figured it was going to be one of those days on the Eagle. Lew hopped on the sticks and put Jason and I in the “hairlip hole.” Things came to life and we landed a few Rainbows On Soft hackle Pheasant Tails.

Lew with a nice bow he hammered on the Batwing Emerger.
That day ended with me rowing us backwards through trestle rapid (not good), losing a very expensive rod and no Caddis.
The next day Jason and I did find the hatch but not until the last mile of the float. We only saw a couple risers before the river turned to chocolate milk from a dirty feeder creek. Now the river is up to around 1200 cfs and the caddis are back on the bottom.
Eagle River Run Off
by joey on May.15, 2008, under Fly Fishing
Spring has arrived (kinda) here in the Mountains and the snow is finally starting to melt. The rivers are swollen and fishing has been on and off. The eagle river, which runs through town, is now high enough to float. It is a fun float with alot of rapids and when the fishing is on you can crush some nice trout. On cooler nights the river clarity will improve and fishing can be good if the water temps stay warm (48-50 degrees). We are going to try our luck this weekend, hopefully I’ll have some fishy pics for ya.

Here are a couple shots of Bob and Jason going through Trestle Rapid in Wolcott.

Bob Marley: One For The Mainah’s

I had the privilege of playing on the same hockey team with this riot a few years ago. If you ever get the chance to see Bob Marley live your gut will hurt the next day. Check him out.
