The Night Charlie Tended The Weir

by joey on Jul.15, 2008, under Fly Fishing

This is a poem by Gordon Bok that I read in college and thought of it when my mother sent me this picture of her Uncle Bob. I like to think that Charlie might look like this. Listen to this good ole’ Down East Poem.

Eagle River: Guides Fun Float

by joey on Jul.12, 2008, under Fly Fishing

The water in the Vail Valley has finally started to come down and has gotten clear in the process. A couple days ago eight of us took three boats and floated the lower section of the Eagle River to get an idea of what the fish were eating. Jason and I mostly nymphed and had some luck, but most of the fished were caught on double streamer rigs. Between the 3 boats we probably landed around 15 fish with the biggest going to Bob around 20″. It wasn’t on fire but it was better thatn sitting on the couch.
