Salmon River Specialists: Get It Done

by joey on Nov.15, 2008, under Fly Fishing

For those of you who have not noticed it is Steelhead Season and if you have never fished the Salmon River in NY it is a must on the bucket list. The river gets a filthy run of Big Steelhead out of Lake Ontario giant Brown Trout also swim up the system which are a nice bonus. Our friend Dave Severson has grown up in the banks of the Salmon and other drainages that flow iinto the big lake. He knows every inch of the river and where the fish hold. If it is your first trip to Upstate NY and need a quick fix of Steel give Dave a jingle he’ll put you on the chrome.

Salmon River New York: Hot Chrome On The Bank

by joey on Nov.09, 2008, under Fly Fishing

Just returned from a little East Coast Steelhead trip to NY. The fish were hot almost too hot. There were times when we would call unnecessary roughness on the fish. The first day was a tough one with water levels being in the trees so any fish that was hooked was instanly on its was back to the lake and deep into your backing. The levels came down and the fishing was great for the rest of the trip. Day 2 there were over 30 white lightning hooked by our group.

Here’s another look at my fish of the trip. Stay tunned for more on the great lakes trip. Jeremy is putting together a vid that should be off the wall. We put together a snappy and catch tune that I think you’ll like.

Pulaski NY: Oh Boy…..

by joey on Nov.02, 2008, under Fly Fishing

Headed to Pulaski for a few days to do some fishing with some boys over on fliesandfins and do a film for Fox Hollow Lodge. Will be back on Friday with some stories of Steelbow Rainheads that fell for some of our offerings.
Here are a couple from last year that fell for the egg sucking caddis…….which got very little press until it started laying waste.
