Well my search for bigfoot wasn’t too successful on the Olmpic Peninsula last week but we did find a few Steelhead in the very very very low and less than ideal Hoh River. Forks Washington, so I was told, recieves around 16 inches of rain in February and this month they have only recieved One. So, you can only imagine how low the rivers are thus not moving very many fish into the systems. My trip up there was to do some filming with the Braz for the winter run and things were tough. On my first day after a long travel I had a window of a couple hours of fishing, after getting my license and watching a tourist almost get knocked out by a beefy lumberjack trying to cash his check. Anyway, I drove to the Hoh and was able to nymph up this buck that I figured to be about eight pounds, I was happy considering that people were only averaging a couple fish a day.

That Night I found the Braz and followed him to his rented house where I would stay for the next few days. We tied some bugs, rigged some leaders, drank Rainer and came up with a plan for the next day. Thursday morning found us at the park boundary shoving the blue steelhead bus of a steep bank. We hooked a few that took us into some log jams but nothing really to speak of. we would nymph in between swing holes looking for Big Moe with no luck.

HOW TO PREPARE TO CATCH A STEELHEAD
The night before you really want to catch a steelhead follow the instructions below.
1st- you must prepare a very special meal that will fill you full of energy and nutritious vitamins.

In order to prepare the above you must first have 3-4 heaping shots of Patron chased by 2-3 Raindogs.
Brown 1lb of beef of your choice (we chose Elk) in a 10 inch skillet and drain the juice. (I like to add a bunch of Tapatio Hot Sauce to really kick it up.)
Then add 2 1/4 cups of milk and 1/4 cup of water along with the original hamburger helper mix and cover stirring ocassionally.
Once ready pour youself another shot of Patron and crack another Rainer. For a side Cool Ranch Doritos complement the meal greatly.
If your creation lacks the heat you are looking for pop it into the Early Eighties Microwave for an hour and it might warm up a degree.

Once you are satisfied tie a bunch of Steelhead Flies and pass out for a few hours. When you wake up you will feel like hell but you are now ready to catch a Chrome Steelhead.

Once we shook the night before off we were in the water once again in the Blue Steelhead Bus looking for a “mover and a shaker” we swung a few holes with the spray poles but didn’t get any tugs.

Finally we found a beautiful Hen that tore me up before we got her in the net. She was lying right off the tip of a log jam waiting for my fly and my fly only. I though that was nice of her and after we did battle I sent her off into the bright blue hoh to spawn and swim another day….if the tribal nets dont get her. Overall it was a fun trip not alot of fish were caught. But thats Steelhead Fishing.

My Dad, his cousin Tom Geib and his son Tom Tom went out for a day of Bonefishing in Miami last week and had a great trip. I am going to have to say that Tom Geib Jr. was lucky to have this Bonefish as his first. Way to go Tom!!!!
