Colorado Winter Fly Fishing: Roaring Fork Rainbow Trout
by joey on Feb.19, 2010, under Fly Fishing
Last weekend Amos and I headed over to Basalt for a day of Fly Fishing on the Frying Pan River. Of course once we made our way into Glenwood Canyon the weather had turned to heavy snow and got significantly colder. Arriving on the Pan was no different, the snow was thicker heavier and the wind was stiff. We had come this far we had to fish. I rigged up one rod and met Amos riverside. Through the white wall of snow we could see trout rising on the far bank. Our hands were freezing and the snow was blinding…what to do?

So the three of us hoped in the truck and headed somewhere a bit warmer.

Cam was happy to be in the truck and out of the river. The snow got heavier and the next thing we knew the olympics were on at a local bar.

This is how the night ended. A bit blurry but warm.
the next morning it was blue bird skies and sun. Still cold but sunny.

After Breakfast we threw the waders on and hit the Roaring Fork River. It was cold real cold but the fishing was pretty hot. Amos hooked up on some nice fish especailly one Big Brown Trout that shook off and resulted in her almost breaking the rod with dissapointment.

It felt good to get out and dust off the rods. Soon the weather will wram up and the fishing will be in full swing real soon.. More to come.
