Eagle River: Clear To The Bottom

Newellsy and I plopped the boat in the Eagle this afternoon trying to get at least one last float in before it is too low. The river was unbelievably clear, you could see fish move as the shadow from the boat eased over them. I was on the sticks first rowing Jason thru a few mile of private water. A nice Brown put us on the board only a few strokes from the put in.

It felt good to get one in the boat and know that what we had on the end of the line was working. Jason hooked a few more fish around the same size and then all hell broke loose when the he hooked a big Bow in a rock garden. The fish ran right into the current and under the boat. The water we were in was not exactly easy to slow down in, in fact I am suprised we got out of there without getting stuck on a rock. We shouted with laughter when we got this guy in the net.

We got through the rest of the bone yard and on the next cast a big brown took off jumping 5 times before getting into the net.

“Alright Newellsy your on the sticks I am on the Bow.” We fished down through more private water hooking and losing big Rainbows and Browns. I fianally got one to the net in some faster water down river.

We did get a couple of blooper shots.

It was an awesome afternoon on the Eagle it might have been the last float of the season but we’ll keep our eyes on the gauge. Maybe one more……

  1. Joey,

The Eagle is on fire. Nice to see that Jason can actually catch fish. Trestle Rapid is getting super boney, but the wade fishing will be incredible.
