Piney River: Spooky Brook Trout

Last Sunday we headed up to Piney Lake which starts the Piney River. It is a cool spot located at the base of Mount Powell, the tallest mountain in the Gore Range. The Aspens had started to turn bright yellow and the smaller shrubs and bushes were hints of orange and red. I brought the 3wt up to try my luck at some very spooky Brook Trout that hold in the crystal clear Piney River.

Amos snapped this shot of Mt. Powell and Piney Lake with me looking way to serious.

Only tricked one to eat a small Black Trico.

Amos and the Cam the chow hound walked around and took pics while the rest of us (Ryan, Chris and I) got schooled by some high altitude Brookies.

  1. The hound is getting big!!

  2. Joey, Amos & Cam,

Thanks for putting us up and putting us on the fish. I had a blast! I’m still reeling from some of those runs and lost fish…and definitely those ribs!

    Thanks again.

  3. Chris-

Good to fish with you and Ryan too bad you couldnt stay a little longer..Next time. Think steelhead this fall.

  4. Ya .. you do look serious … kinda like that crazy wild eyed look that i once saw come over you when a snagger was standing in your steelhead drift ….. … it scares me a little, to be honest and brings back memories that i would rather not think about .. please remove that picture.
