Washington Spring Steelhead Fishing: It Puts The Yarn In Its Mouth

by joey on Apr.08, 2009, under Fly Fishing

I just got back from my final Winter Run Steelhead trip of the year. Much better than last my last trip in Februrary. The rain had finally come raising water levels and bringing in fresh pods of big fish. Over the course of my three day expedition I hooked 13 Steelhead and landed 10. Not too bad. The three that were lost were very very very large and broke my heart with long distance releases. The First day I got there I had a few hours to kill go I hiked up into the Bogachiel State Park and tried to hunt a few down to no avail. I did meet a wild Litawanina, Rolandis, who gave meet 3 sips of Jameson before I left the park.

We floated with Jim Kerr on the Sol Duc Friday and he was very proud of his new anchor. Very natural.

The Mighty Pacific Ocean near the Reservation. I had to drive down there the morning of my departure, I mean how often do you get to see the pacific Ocean? This resulted in me being late for my flight which resulted in me speeding which resulted in a $150.00 speeding ticket.

Sunset on the lower Hohsky Doh. The Team hooked 8 and landed 5 on the Hoh that day.

Big Lower Hoh Buck that came to the net in a rather wild way. I had to extract this from video (hence the grainyness).
More pics and video to follow. Kyle Barrus took some amazing photos that I should have within the next week.
