Yampa: Leap Year

Headed to the Yampa River this morning with my buddy Jason. The road is closed until April so we stuffed a couple backpacks full of gear and made the 2 mile walk to the Tailwater. It was nice to find 6 other guys there who took snomobiles in followed by 3 more that got lucky and scored a ride with the dam operator. “What the smuck are all these people doing here?” I kep muddering. Everyone was hanging in the sun so we headed down to the caynon and pounded down there for the duration. Scuds, Micro Mayflies, RS2 and Black Beauties hammered fish all day. I kid you not I cast to a 30″ bow for 3 hours and couldn’t get him to eat. I truly thought it was a steelhead. We each landed some nice Bows and left satisfied. The fire is now fuled and I feel that walk will be made many more times until the gate keeper gets together with the key master.
